Gebane Energy is proud to support an inspiring South African athlete, Gerard Seibritz, who is currently travelling from Johannesburg to Cape Town using only his wheelchair. His mission is simple but deeply powerful – to create awareness for people living with disabilities and to show the country that they are capable of achieving far more than society often assumes.
During our conversation with him, Gerard shared that the inspiration behind this journey comes from the lack of disability categories in major South African marathons such as the Comrades and Two Oceans. He believes the country needs to pay more attention to creating accessible spaces and opportunities – even simple things like keeping disability toilets available only for those who truly need them.

His journey has not been easy. Along the way, Gerard and his companion faced bad weather, humidity, traffic changes, and even a near-robbery. Despite these challenges, he continues pushing – both physically and mentally – proving to himself and others that determination can take you further than you ever imagined.
Gebane Energy supported Gerard with two nights’ accommodation in Kimberley at Flamingo Roadlodge, new tires for his wheelchair, assistance with bicycle repairs, and financial support to help him keep going strong. He expressed deep gratitude, saying this kind of help encourages them to continue and reminds them that they are not alone.

Gerard hopes that future journeys, including his dream of travelling across Africa one day, will be supported by an assisting vehicle for essentials like water, clothing, and food. But for now, he continues pushing forward with heart, strength, and purpose – showing South Africa what resilience truly looks like.
At Gebane Energy, we understand the importance of community and the power of standing behind initiatives that uplift and empower people. Fueling journeys like Gerard’s is what keeps us moving – because when we fuel others, we fuel progress.
